Historically, the St-Lawrence River was always considered as a privileged entrance door to the North-American continent. To this natural route, an international airport, railways and an important road network has been established to easily bridge the Quebec region with the whole continent and to the rest of the world.

The Quebec region is easily accessible by car with excellent highway networks and the Trans-Canada routes.
The South Shore of St-Lawrence river is served by Highway 20 (Trans-Canada Highway) and the North Shore by Highway 40.

In Quebec, the speed limits are indicated in kilometers/hour (km/h) and the distances are in kilometers. On the highways and principal national roads, the speed limit is 100 km/h (60 miles/hr) and the minimal speed is 60 km/h (35 miles/hr). City streets are restricted to 50 or 60 km/h (30 or 35 miles/hr) and are clearly marked.
For tourists of certain countries, it may be advisable to check to see if an international driver's license is required.
In Quebec, the gas is sold by the liter, and safety belts are obligatory for all.
